Blues Drop-In
Body & Soul

Day & Time: Monday, 18:30 – 19:30

Dates: 01.05.2023 – 15.05.2023

Blues dance is a family of Black American vernacular dances danced to blues music; dances within this family are linked by shared aesthetics and techniques rooted in Black American traditions and historical context.

Let us guide you through favourite moves and concepts, so that you can let loose and enjoy dancing to awesome Blues music. Drop-In topics can include: technical elements of groove and posture, classic vernacular steps, improvisation and connection in both solo and partnered dance.

This course is open level, you don't need any prior experience with Blues. But, if you haven't done any Black American social dances before (e.g. Lindy Hop), it could be a pretty big challenge 😉

This course is intended for all levels of experience. It doesn’t require any prior Solo Jazz or Blues experience.  If you’ve never done any Black American dances, it might be a bit challenging, but feel free to give it a try! If you have lots of Blues dance experience, don’t worry we will still find a challenge for you to dig into 🙂

Location

Our Studio in the Ringstraße

Ringstraße 19A
69115 Heidelberg

The building is at the intersection of Ringstraße with Hildastraße, our entrance is at the north-east corner, from the Ringstraße.

The building is closed on evenings and weekends, please use the buzzer so we can let you in. Our studio is in the “souterrain” – go downstairs and follow the sound of swing music 😉

Public Transportation: many busses, streetcars, trains; stops “Hauptbahnhof”, “Ringstraße”, or “Römerkreis Süd”.

Parking: it can be a bit tricky to find parking spots, so you should plan in some extra time. There’s a little bit of free street parking available in the Ringstraße (with Parkscheibe),metred parking at Kaiserstr and Belfortstr (the metre is at Kaiserstr 60). You can also try a nearby Parkhaus: there’s the nearby Scheck-In Centre (entrance from Kleinschmidtstraße),or a bit further away the P1 (entrance from Poststraße).

Accessibility: our studio is wheelchair-accessible, but the elevator is in a locked area of the building. If you have any mobility issues please contact us in advance so that we can arrange access for you. Two bathrooms (single-cabin, non-gendered) are near our room, however the doors unfortunately may not be wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
