Solo Drop-In
Grooves and Moves
Day & Time: Wednesday, 19:00 – 20:00
Dates: 04.09.2024 – 04.09.2024
Solo Jazz is a big part of Lindy Hop culture and history. It's a great way to work on your dancing independently - you get a better understanding of the basic rhythms of swing dancing, you improve your balance and gain more control of your weight shifts and body movements, and you learn steps that can be added as variations to your partnered Lindy Hop.
It's also a joyous and rich dance in its own right, and you can use it to jam out with friends at a social dance.
Topics in our Solo Drop-Ins can include:
- techniques for balance and rhythm
- polyrhythms, coordination, body isolations
- classic vernacular jazz steps and choreography
- improvisation and social solo dance
You can join drop-ins every week if you want, or only occasionally. The topic will vary from week to week.
This drop-in is intended for all levels of experience. It doesn’t require any prior Solo Jazz experience. If you’ve never done any Lindy Hop or other swing dance, it might be a bit challenging, but feel free to give it a try! If you have lots of Solo Jazz experience, don’t worry we will still find a challenge for you to dig into 🙂

Here’s where Solo Drop-In takes place:
SwingStation Kurfürsten-Anlage 58
69115 Heidelberg
The entrance is on the eastern side of the building, reachable from the Kurfürsten-Anlage itself or from the Kirchstraße. Our studio is on the ground floor, at the end of the hall.
Public Transportation: many busses, streetcars, trains; stops “Hauptbahnhof” or “Stadtwerke”.
Parking: please do not park in the yard, the parking spaces don’t belong to us and you might get a ticket. It’s hard to find parking spots in our area, so you should plan in some extra time. You can try to find street parking in the Kirchstraße or Vangerowstraße, or you might need to go to a nearby Parkhaus (e.g. P1 in the Poststraße) and walk from there.
